Graduate interns are master's students completing the final stages of their professional training. They provide counseling services under the close supervision of licensed, experienced clinicians. This model allows clients to receive quality care while spending less money per session.

Things to Consider

• Developing Clinical Experience

Graduate interns are still building their professional experience. While they have completed extensive coursework and practical training, they are continuing to develop their clinical skills under supervision.

• Required Supervision

To support quality care and professional development, interns regularly discuss client cases with their licensed supervisors. These discussions are confidential and conducted in accordance with professional ethics and privacy regulations.

• Limited Availability

Internships typically follow an academic calendar. An intern's placement may end after a semester or academic year, which may require transitioning care to another clinician if ongoing treatment is needed.

• Scope of Practice

Graduate interns are trained to work with a wide range of concerns but may not be the best fit for clients experiencing highly complex or acute mental health needs. If specialized services are needed, referrals to appropriately qualified providers will be made.
